Lyoto "The Dragon" Machida, the current UFC Light Heavyweight champion, has never lost a match in his professional career. With dominating wins over Tito Ortiz and Rashad Evans, there is no one to stop him. On May 8, 2010, in UFC 113, he will have a rematch against Shogun for the championship title. However, like his previous fight against Shogun, Machida is expected to win with great performance.

With his lack luster performances, Machida is considered boring and hard to watch by many fans and critics. However I disagree with that statement. His precision of techniques, counters, and ability to never get hit is one of the most exciting aspects of his performances. His technique is based mainly on shotokan karate and brazilian jiu jitsu. He also has techniques from Wrestling and Sumo which makes him fully prepared for any situation in the Octagon. Machida relies on cautious and precise counter-striking that frustrates his opponents into making mistakes which many fighters have a hard time preparing for.

In the UFC, I think the best fighter to pin against Lyoto Machida would be Randy Couture. With Couture's dominating win over Mark Coleman, and his steady rise in the Light heavyweight division, Couture has the right background and technique to counter Machida's elusiveness. Couture would use his wrestling as to his advantage. He would use his wrestling to pin Machida to the cage and score some points, or take him down for some ground and pound and impose his will. He used this same technique to win over top contender, Brandon Vera. Still, I'd have to give the win to Lyoto Machida. Machida has a great ground game that most people have not seen with his black belt in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu. I'm sure he will figure out a way to get past this and put up a good fight.

MMA Record:

Machida has wins over Stephan Bonnar, Rich Franklin, B.J Penn, Sokoudjiou, Tito Ortiz, Thiago Silva, Rashad Evans, and Mauricio Rua.

Machida also has two Knockout of the Night Honors.

Machida is the current UFC Light Heavyweight Champion.

Machida is also the first Light Heavyweight Champion to defend their title since Quinton "Rampage" Jackson.
